Free image compressor and WebP converter: smaller product photos, no upload, no location data
We've built a free image compressor and WebP converter. Drop in up to 20 photos, pick WebP, JPEG, AVIF or optimised PNG, and download smaller files one by one or in a single ZIP. It runs in your browser, so your photos never leave your computer, and it removes the location data your phone saved in them unless you ask to keep it.

What it does
- Compresses and converts JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and GIF images to WebP, JPEG, AVIF or lossless PNG.
- A quality slider starting at 75 for WebP and JPEG and 50 for AVIF, plus optional resizing to a maximum width or height (it never enlarges).
- Shows the size before and after for every image, and warns you when a file got bigger.
- Compares one image with a slider or side by side, so you can check the quality before you replace anything.
Which format to pick
- WebP for your own website and for Google Shopping. Google's image requirements list WebP alongside JPEG, PNG, GIF, BMP and TIFF.
- JPEG for Etsy and anywhere you're not sure. Etsy's photography help lists .jpg, .gif, .png, .svg and .heic as the only file types it supports, so WebP won't upload there.
- AVIF makes the smallest files and modern browsers show it, but none of the marketplace help pages we read lists it. Use it on your own site.
- PNG is lossless: right for logos and screenshots, but it makes big files from photos.
Your photos stay on your computer, and your location stays out
Phone photos usually carry EXIF details: the camera, the date and often the GPS position where the photo was taken. A product shot taken at home can give away your home address. The compressor removes all of it by default. If you want to keep the camera, date and copyright details, tick "Keep EXIF"; the location still stays out unless you also tick "Include GPS location".
Nothing is uploaded: the page fetches the encoders from our site once, then does all the work inside your browser.
The sizes marketplaces ask for
Straight from each platform's own help page (we link them all on the tool page):
- Google Shopping: at least 500 × 500 pixels for all product images from 31 January 2027, with about 1500 × 1500 or more recommended. No image over 64 megapixels or 16 MB.
- Shopify: up to 5000 × 5000 pixels (25 megapixels) and under 20 MB. For square product images, Shopify says 2048 × 2048 usually displays best.
- Etsy: at least 2000 pixels wide and tall recommended, and images over 1 MB may not finish uploading on a slow connection.
- eBay: at least 500 pixels on the longest side, with no added borders, text or watermarks.
Amazon keeps its image requirements in Seller Central behind a sign-in, so we haven't quoted them. On the tool page, the Google, Shopify, Etsy and eBay cards each have a "Use these settings" button with our suggested format, quality and maximum size.
How it works
The encoders come from Squoosh, Google Chrome Labs' open-source image app (MozJPEG, libwebp, libavif and OxiPNG), as packaged by the open-source jSquash project and served from our own site. They run in a background worker, so the page stays responsive. The licences are listed on the tool page.
With the sample photo on the page, a 1200 × 1200 product shot went from 255 kB to 96 kB as WebP at quality 75, and we couldn't see the difference at normal size. Your results depend on the photo, so use "Compare" first.
Selling products? Cut the photo out first
Our free background remover puts products on white and squares them up for Google Shopping, Amazon, eBay, Etsy and Shopify. Then bring the photos back here to shrink them. Batch Pro, for whole folders in one run, is opening soon; its waitlist is on the background remover page.
